Position Overview
The Athletic Director at Lake Worth Christian School is responsible for overseeing the entire athletic program, including the development, coordination, and implementation of all athletic activities. The Athletic Director ensures that all athletic endeavors reflect the school’s Christian mission, values, and commitment to academic excellence, while also fostering the physical, spiritual, and emotional growth of students through athletic participation. This position requires leadership in managing teams, coaching staff, scheduling, and ensuring a Christ-centered athletic environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities should include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership and Vision for Athletic Program
Promote a strong Christ-centered environment for all students and demonstrate strong Christian leadership.
Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive athletic program that supports the school’s mission and values, focusing on physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and Christian principles.
Establish a vision for the athletic department that promotes holistic growth (spiritual, physical, emotional) for all student-athletes.
Ensure that the athletic programs provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, character, and integrity both on and off the field.
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Coaching Staff Management
Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate qualified, committed coaches who align with the school’s Christian mission and values.
Provide professional development for coaches, offering support and training in coaching techniques, biblical leadership, and mentorship.
Ensure coaches promote Christian values and a positive, supportive environment for student-athletes.
Foster a culture of teamwork and spiritual growth among the coaching staff and student-athletes.
Athletic Program Coordination
Develop and maintain athletic schedules, ensuring all events and practices are aligned with the school calendar and that student-athletes are supported academically and spiritually.
Coordinate logistics for all athletic events, including transportation, facility usage, and equipment management.
Ensure that all athletic facilities are properly maintained and meet safety standards for student-athletes.
Organize and oversee athletic competitions, tournaments, and league play as needed, both within the local community and with other schools.
Ensure the school is compliant with all FSHAA guidelines
Ensure the school is compliant with all regulations pertaining to participation in leagues and conferences the school is aligned with.
Oversee both middle and high school athletic activities.
Student-Athlete Development
Foster the development of students through athletic participation by emphasizing Christian character, perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Provide guidance and mentorship to student-athletes, helping them balance academics, athletics, and spiritual growth.
Create opportunities for students to grow in their faith through team prayer, devotionals, and discussions on integrating their faith into athletic competition.
Encourage a balanced approach to athletics, ensuring students are developing their gifts while prioritizing their spiritual, academic, and personal growth.
In collaboration with the Strength and Conditioning Coach, ensure that student-athletes and programs are utilizing the Coach Terri Kaiser Fitness Center to promote great program development.
Athletic Program Budget and Resource Management
Develop and manage the athletic department budget, ensuring that resources are used effectively and responsibly.
Oversee the purchasing and maintenance of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
Work with the school’s administration to ensure adequate financial support for the athletic program, including fundraising and sponsorship opportunities.
Establish a Booster Club and work with school leadership to promote fundraising to assist with sports, expenses, and improvements throughout the athletic program.
Communication and Community Relations
Serve as the primary contact for parents, students, and staff regarding athletic activities, schedules, and policies.
Develop strategies for communicating athletic program updates, team successes, and upcoming events to the school community through newsletters, social media, and school-wide announcements.
Cultivate positive relationships with local churches, community organizations, and other schools to support the athletic program and its outreach efforts.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure that all athletic programs adhere to the school’s policies, safety protocols, and any relevant local, state, or national regulations.
Oversee the health and safety of student-athletes by ensuring that coaches and staff are trained in emergency procedures, concussion protocols, and other safety guidelines.
Maintain accurate records for student-athletes, including health forms, permission slips, and eligibility requirements.
Spiritual Integration in Athletics:
Lead and model Christian character, integrity, and sportsmanship both as an administrator and in interaction with student-athletes.
Incorporate Christian principles into athletic practices, games, and team activities, encouraging student-athletes to live out their faith through athletics.
Provide pastoral support to students and coaches as needed, including prayer, spiritual guidance, and encouragement.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Christian Leadership, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in athletic administration, coaching, or related roles, ideally within a Christian school setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to recruit, train, and motivate coaches and student-athletes.
Ability to balance the demands of the athletic program with the school’s mission of academic and spiritual excellence.
Familiarity with athletic scheduling, event management, and resource allocation
Experience in budget management and fundraising
A passion for developing young athletes in their physical, academic, and spiritual growth.
A servant leader who models Christlike behavior and emphasizes integrity, respect, and perseverance.
A strong communicator and team builder who fosters positive relationships with coaches, students, parents, and the broader community.
A commitment to promoting a holistic approach to education, with a focus on developing character, leadership, and faith through athletics.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
Must operate computers, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment.
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
